DJ SET PLANNER

Paste a track list with each track's BPM and key. The planner finds the order that keeps every transition harmonic where it can and the tempo moving in small steps, and labels each mix on the Camelot wheel.

HOW IT WORKS

KEYS FIRST, THEN TEMPO

Each possible transition gets a cost. On the key side the safe moves cost least — staying in the same key, one step round the Camelot wheel (8A to 7A or 9A), or the same number on the other ring (8A to 8B), the starting points Mixed In Key's own guide recommends. Two steps up, its "energy boost", costs more; anything else counts as a clash. On the tempo side every percent of change adds a little, counting a jump to half- or double-time as no jump at all.

Up to twelve tracks the planner checks every possible order and returns the cheapest one exactly. Above twelve — up to forty — it builds an order step by step and then improves it until no swap helps, which is very good but not guaranteed to be the best. The wheel is a guide, not a rule: listen to each transition.

PHRASES

MIX ON THE PHRASE

Dance tracks are built in phrases of 8, 16 and 32 bars, and mixes land best when a phrase in one track starts with a phrase in the other. The phrase line shows how long each lasts at a tempo, in 4/4 — the same formula as the Song Length Calculator.

FAQ

COMMON QUESTIONS

Where do I get the BPM and key of my tracks?
Your DJ software shows both. For a file it has not analysed, the Key & BPM Finder reads them in your browser.

Which key formats can I type?
Camelot codes (8A, 12B), and key names: Am, A minor, F#m, Ebm, C, Dbmaj. Every key is converted to its Camelot code.

Is my list saved?
No. The list stays on this page while it is open; copy the order before you close it.

Why is a clash still in my set?
Some lists cannot be ordered without one — a track in a key nothing else is near. The planner keeps clashes to the fewest possible and shows each in red so you can plan a breakdown, an a cappella or an effect for it.
