UK SCENE
Drum & Bass originated in London's rave scene around 1991-1993. Fabric nightclub
in Farringdon has hosted DnB nights since opening in 1999, with Room 1's iconic
FABRICLIVE mix series featuring over 100 releases.
TEMPO
DnB is one of the fastest mainstream electronic genres at 160-180 BPM — roughly double
the tempo of house music. This speed, combined with half-time basslines, creates the
genre's distinctive 'rolling' energy.
LABELS
Key labels include Hospital Records (founded 1996, London), RAM Records (founded
1992), Metalheadz (founded by Goldie, 1994), and Shogun Audio. Hospital Records alone
has released over 500 tracks and hosts the annual Hospitality festival series.
GLOBAL FESTIVALS
Let It Roll (Czech Republic) is the world's largest DnB festival with over 25,000
attendees. Other major events include Liquicity (Netherlands), Sun and Bass
(Sardinia), and Outlook (Croatia). The genre has dedicated scenes across the UK,
Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
